TV

a TV series that i was watching just ended... don't laugh at me... i am talking about ½ðÅƱùÈË¡£¡£¡£ that TVB series on 8TV..

i know at out age and of our generation we are suppose to poke fun at TVB serials... being fake and corny and all... but i found this show seriously funny.. and the grouping between ³ÂºÀ who played ¸ßì³ and ¸ÇÃùêÍwho played Áîºüϲwonderfully matched and a beautiful pair... periodical dramas are not really my cup of tea, but this was so outrageous that they actually managed to be funny..

¸ÇÃùêÍis quite convincing as a girl disguising as a man... i think she would make a very convincing »¨Ä¾À¼, though she would be a bit too old for that..

besides that, i am watching ɩɩʮ¾ÅËê¡£¡£ that korean drama on ntv7... although i already know that the girl will finally be paired of with the other guy (seriously not my type) instead of the guy i want her to be paired with (to the T), i am still religiously following the show...doesn't hurt to get some eye candy once in a while...those of u who know,KNOW what i am talking about...weird that he can be such a nice guy in one show and such a baddie in another(the one on 8TV)...hmmm

on a more solemn note, my bro is leaving for singapore on monday...

p/s: my dad still hasn't given the green light for BT... anyone can help me burn a few shows i REALLY want?( like the ones mentioned above?)

FCPs-Female Chauvinist Pigs

the was an interesting article in The Sun today... Taken Off The Independent about Female Chauvinist Pigs... the new generation of women who show the world how far(or rather or behind) we have come in "liberating" ourselves (or of our clothes,specifically)...

http://www.sun2surf.com/article.cfm?id=12257

Personally, i do not have a very high opinion of this people. but maybe that's just me...

Hong Kong 2

I've heard horror stories about people going to disneyland HK and had to fight with the mainlanders for everything... waiting 2 hours for rides, an hour for food and so on. so when me and mum booked the trip, we specifically requested that we didn't want disneyland, at least not for the moment.. But whadda'ya know, as soon as we got to HK, we were informed that we ARE going to disneyland afterall due to a mistake in the bookings, so, not to question fate(or my lucky stars) we went along with it... it IS afterall 350 HKD for a ticket ( all included into the tour)
whoever spread the horror stories must have been spilled a whole rack or spices.. cause disneyland on a saturday was pretty crowded, but not to the extent of scary...if we had gone alone, the i doubt we could have gone in, cause the lines for tickets were soooo long, but we went with a tour, so the tour guide was incharged of getting the tickets from a special line by the tourism board, which was much faster...
we got into the park at 11 am.. half an hour after it officially opens to the crowd... me and my brother went immediately to Tomorrow Land, and covered all the supposely "famous" games... before lunch, we had covered Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blaster and Space Mountain ( where i screamed)... after lunch, we went to all the shows and stuff... all really spectacular.. I liked the Mickey's Philhamagic most... it's a  45 minutes 3D movie where the screen is concave and wide and things really seem like they are in front of you... when donald duck spilled some water, all the audience where sprayed with water from the hidden mechanisms, when cakes where paraded in front of Donald, gases where pump into the theatre so i could smell blueberry... and when he went on Aladdin's Magic carpet, you could almost feel the wind... much better than a similar 4D movie we saw in Shenzhen...
Disneyland at night was cold.. only 14 degrees celsius... the highlight was the firework display, which went on for 30 minutes before the park was almost due to close.... For whoever who thinks of going to Disneyland HK in the near future, i can tell you it is really worth it..
After the rest of the tour group went home to Malaysia the next day, we stayed on for 2 days more as we were originally supposed to visit my kow gong in those two days... instead, we visited my kum po (kow gong's wife) to give her emotional support...inspite of her grief, she has continued working while kow gong's body is yet to be release for ceremonies and in a weird way i think seeing us and bringing everybody out to dinner offered her a change in scenery and a respite from her grief...we went to dim sum restaurants and stuffed ourselves full of the little delights and i tasted the small kuih's that my kow gong and grandma used to love... a bit weird really, having so much fun while someone just died.. but like my yee poh(great aunt) from china says.. life must go on...
The time we had, we really got to see HK... before that the tour was so packed we could hardly wander off by ourselves... we took the tram to the peak and took pictures(Madam Tussaud's was unfortunately closed), took the ferry from HK island to Kowloon, went to Snoopy's World in Sha Tin and wandered around on the MRT... i've discovered two of my favourite shops in HK, which are almost on every street there... Aji-Iciban and Bossini's. Aji Iciban is in KL as well, but the ones they have there are so cheap(compared to outlets in KL) and sooo many more choices... Bossini is a clothing label like PDI in KL, but not carried here... eventhough all the clothes there where long sleeve and hardly practical for Malaysian weather, i couldn't stop myself admiring the lovely designs and the affordability of it all... My aunt says i will surely go crazy if i went there in summer... but it's a catch-22... if i went there in summer it would be too hot to do anything, and if i went there in autumn ( like i just did) it would be too cold to buy anything...

22 Nov, we came home, after a week away... the day before we went to my kow gong's old room and gave jossticks as a sign of respect... I couldn't help but get teary eyed when i hugged my kum poh..she's such a nice and loving person... i sure hope to see her again soon...

Hong Kong

Have just come back from HK and missing it already...
Isn't it strange how fate works sometimes? one of the biggest reasons this trip was arranged was so that we could see how "kow gong", my great uncle was getting on... he has been suffering from a heart problem eversince my grandma was sick... few days before the holidays begin, kow gong was admitted into the hospital, a few days before departure, he passes away in Queen Elizabeth Hospital...we didn't get to see him after all...
In Malaysia, deceased muslims must be buried before the next sunrise... Chinese, especially hokkiens keep the ceremonies going on for a few days depending on how grand the ceremonies are... but in Hong Kong it is different...
As there are only 6 crematoriums to supply the huge population, there is a long wait to use the "furnace"...so, in order to obtain a "space", there is a waiting period of two weeks... when my kow gong died, they had to wait 2 days for a death certificate to be issued, not because the hong kong people are inefficient, but because their system dictates that only a few people have the authority to issue a death certificate... after that, they joined the wait.. 2 weeks... the whole period where the body has to be kept in the morgue and will be taken out one day before the cremation for ceremonies...kow gong will be cremated on the 24th of November... 2 days after we leave...

since the trip could not be cancelled, we went on with it. this is my first trip to Hong Kong, yet it felt so familiar, perhaps because of the fact that i grew up spoon-fed both by TVB serials and my grandma's tales of where she used to live. The tour guide was a nice person, many funny anecdotes.. i took loads of pictures, in Repulse Bay, Wong Tai Shin temple and all the sights. the hi-light of the tour was the free harbour cruise we got the day of arrival. a buffet spread of fresh seafood like mullets, salmon and the best cheesecake i have ever tasted. the view from the "garden" on deck of the ship was spectacular... couldn't take pictures though, the movement of the ship made all the pictures pretty blurry...
the nest day it was off to Shenzhen, where i had the biggest culture shock in my life... while i didn't see any beggars in Hong Kong, a 20 minute train ride away to Shen Zhen brought me face to face with beggars who harrassed people for money and refused to go away... all my money was with mum, so i wasn't obliged to give them anything, but i felt so scared everytime i saw them. not because they were pityful or anything, but because these people were perfectly capable to work and could chase you around for money... as scary as stalkers...
although we did visit a few amazing places in Shenzhen, i was glad when we got back to Hong Kong. as soon as we got onto Commonwealth ground and deposited our stuff at the hotel, it was off to Disneyland...

Memories

Today i thought about my grandma...she's been dead for more than one and a half years and i still find it weird sometimes when i think about her, perhaps about the fact that she's no longer here...

She used to tell me stories, about her past, things that for a long time i have had ingrained in my brain... but lately, i find myself starting to forget...images becoming vague, like some movie i saw a long time ago on TV..

People say that forgetfulness is God's gift to mankind, but what if i don't want to forget?

Blogging

reading other people's blogs make me think, and sometimes they lead me to things i never knew about some people, like:

* i didn't know soo mei blogged... the fact is, i think she is much more computer literate than i am, cause all my life i hadn't need to worry about things concerning computers... my father and brother handle the gear and my task is to do whatever i want with it..(which explains why this blog is so plain)

* Teck Pei's blog is a jumble of his current thoughts and his worries, which are quite insightful if you know him

*Hui Fen is the ever rational one.... her blogs are long and often thought-provoking... you see very much of her romantic side though

*Vince... well, i've known that guy since form 1, but frankly, i don't think we've talked much besides the casual hello.... from his blog, you do realize that he is quite the new-age sensitive guy... No offence, but i have never seen a guy who puts so many declarations of love in his ramblings that he KNOWS his guy-friends will see....

*Me... well, i'm just a very CONFUSED person... so bear with me.

My encounter with a pervert

first of all, let me say one thing...*YUCK*

okay, this is what happened...

today, i was on my way to tuition. I was sitting with Soo Mei on the bus, she got the window seat, i got the isle one. The bus was pretty crowded, so i didn't think much of the person standing next to my seat, and what a big mistake that was...

half way to town, i felt something pushing against my seat... at first i thought it was his belly (and by golly did he had a BIG BELLY... it's one of those they could have used to make the "Berapa Bulan?" commercial) so i didn't think much of it... I scooted in closer to Soo Mei and i told her i wished the guy would leave soon because he was seriously getting on my nerves( at that time, i just didn't realise how ANNOYED i should really be)

Later the creep got of the bus, i was a bit suspicious about what really happened, but didn't voice my suspicions out loud, then this guy sitting in front told me the guy was a "Bian Tai Lao" and my suspicions... i didn't know i was supposed to feel angry, mad or offended... most of all i just felt really really disgusted and yet wanted to laugh out loud considering how pathetic that guy really is... Bumping the seat? come on, get a LIFE...

Chiaw wei tells me what i really should have done was stand up and move somewhere else when i suspected something wasn't quite right. Next time i'll do that, but wiser still, next time i'm taking the WINDOW SEAT.

p/s: for all you would-be perverts out there, i'm considering ordering an electric-stun gun from the States.

p/s/s: better still, i'll just get a pair of good old fashioned SCISSORS!

Diet

Hf proposed a great diet tip, am thinking of buying apple cider next time happen to be in supermarket...(wonder what apple cider tastes like though? will it taste positively vile? very curious.)

about the issue of being fat. i think the westerners are better at handling fat people than we asians. ever seen those "gui laos"(foreigners) hanging around Petaling Street? Some of them were twice the size of anyone i know (in terms of waistlines and butts) and they were still strolling around in miniskirts and tube tops... If anyone i know who is anywhere near the fat spectrum dressed like that, they would positively drown in the dirty looks and snide remarks...

i currently have custody on hui fen's birthday present... itching to have a flip through but am trying to hold higher moral ground... Anyway i still have plenty of other reading material not yet covered... My reading speed has definitely suffered since Pn Soong announced that they will confiscate anything that looks remotely liable to have sexual content (mind you, she doesn't mean smut, anything that may contain sexual/compremising situations are OUT..) sheesh...

Fat Girls' Rule Of Conduct

Not long before, i read a book where the girl expressed her views regarding the way fat girls, or rather fat people should behave in public. The things she covered included PDAs(Public Displays Of Affection), relationship with the opposite sex and so on and believe it or not, certain views of hers did match those of mine.

The harsh brutle truth is that i do not, and most probably will never be able to fit into the traditional and conventional idea of beauty. People are constantly lamenting about how the media is pushing unhealthy perceptions of beauty onto young people, but like the pot calling the kettle black, they themselves haven't been doing much to help either. Here in Malaysia, you automatically qualify as fat whenever a "concerned" aunt tells you that "My oh my, you've gotten fat lately" or when you walk into a clothing shop and the biggest size they have looks more like an S on you...

Being a "fat" person, there is a certain way people expect you to behave:

1. Never, ever, under any circumstances express the notion that you fancy someone, because the people will probably look at you and think "puhleeez, look at you..." ( except movie stars, whom everybody else is talking about, those are okay)

2. Never ever wear figure hugging or sleeveless tops. Insensitive people ( most notably insensitive aunts) will probably tell you right in your face that you look like a "bak chang"(chinese dumpling) which is a huge blow to one's self esteem. Never mind that the top was brought from top shop or esprit and cost almost all of your allowance, trust me, you will NEVER EVER want to wear it again. T-shirts, neutral tops, jeans and no-nonsence knee-length skirts are still the safest choice.
Word Of Caution: Eventhough T-shirts are good, baggy t's are a nono... people will probably think you are PREGNANT...

3. Never ever discuss dress sizes or waistlines with your friends unless they are your BEST ONES. those that understand your predicament and won't laugh at you. I once had a friend who was lamenting about how thick her 23 inch waist was... imagine how was I suppose to feel like? A bloody Amazonian Rainforest?

4. Act smart. Be concerned and focus on your studies... This way people will at least think... Well, eventhough she's not beautiful, she can sure write a damn good essay...

Till next time.

p/s: Never tell anybody that you are going on a diet. this way people won't laugh at you when they see you haven't lost weight.

p/s/s: but i AM going on a diet...

p/s/s: ARE there any Mark Darcys in Malaysia????

Only In America

Did you know that 1 in 5 Americans actually think that the sun revolves around the earth? OMG, when i read that article in "The Observer"( the British edition) i nearly killed myself laughing...(and i was in British Council, imagine how embarrasing that would be)

Apparently certain state government in the US are proposing to add something call "Intelligent Design" into their science syllabus. For all you guys and gals out there who don't know what intelligent design is, well, it's basically a "scientific" theory that tells you Darwin was very wrong in his theory of evolution and that the world is so complex and special that it must have been created by a higher being. e.g God. Like many others in Malaysia, i do subcribe to a religion and believe in the existance of a higher being, but sometimes too far IS too far...

for the ones interested in reading the article, you can find it herehttp://observer.guardian.co.uk/focus/story/0,6903,1582943,00.html
